A brief short story by myself Essays - Shannon, Abandoned

This is a brief short story I wrote for my 11th grade English class, hope you enjoy it. The blue stars twinkled with a lustor that can only be described as remarkable, contrasting greatly with the inky skies as the full, yellow moon bathed the world in it?s magnificent glow. The air was coated with a heavy odor of briny sea water, and the sound of the restless ocean waves slamming against the stoney shore echoed throughout the small fishing village along the beaches. It was a melancholy night for the denizens of Rodenford, most of the men, women and children sleeping snugly in their beds. Though there was a single group of souls who were anything but exhausted on this seemingly irrelevant night. There were six of them gathered around the beach on the humid July eve, sitting on pieces of driftwood and folding lawn chairs gathered from their homes and the surrounding environment. Two of them girls, four of them boys. ?Alyx, keep your wandering hands to yourself.? A soft, feminine voice uttered. She was a redhead girl, her cheeks lightly freckled and her eyes an unmistakably bright green. She stood at around five feet in height, her form curvy and her chest holding slight bust. She had moved one of the boy?s hands away from her rear, and shot him an icy glare that seemed to shatter the youth?s soul. She ran her fingers through her curley red hair, and pulled the mid-back length curls up into a tight pony tail. She glanced around for a moment, and let out a brief sigh. ?None of you then? You have to have heard the legends..? She had a slight british accent, and her eyes were filled with a bit of morose annoyance, her lips pursed into a bit of a frown. With a sigh, a boy with thick black hair and vibrant blue eyes spoke up. ?Fine. If there?ll be nobody else..? His tone was a bit reluctant. He felt as though any other company would be nothing more than an annoyance. Thus, the additional company was useless. He was a well built teen, more muscular than average because of his active outlook on life. It also may have been that he was a seasoned level nine gymnast, having won several awards in New York because of his phenomenal ability. He?d kept himself in good shape for quite awhile, in hopes to swoon the above average looking blonde sitting across from him. Though on this night, his ambitions were elsewhere. Shannon, the red haired beauty to his left had been tired of the constant retelling of the myth of men entering a misty cave along the shores, and never returning. It was hogwash, and she, along with Cecil would prove them to only be fantastical tales of apparent horror and excitement. Cecil, the black haired boy looked down at h is companion, her fiery red hair easily contrasting to his abyssal black, and spoke up a last time. ?If they aren?t coming, we should get going. No sense wasting valuable time, right He sounded a bit more jovial than he typically would, his lips stretched into a grin, exposing his pearly teeth. In all honesty, he was quite excited for the little adventure. The suspense was killing him. ?Yes, I suppose you?re right. Come on, try to keep up.? She turned on her heels, her bare feet making a slight swishing sound as they shifted in the sand, and she took off into a sprint, her blazing hair in the air behind her. Cecil followed, running into a full sprint and kicking up a cloud of white sand behind him as he dug his feet into the soft and shifty Earth. He still wore his grin, and the four that remained in the circle behind the sprinting duo quickly abandoned their seats, moving back to their homes in an attempt to forget about the two damned souls who ran to die. Cecil and Shannon ran through the sandy landscape for fifteen minutes, occasionally stopping to take a breath, exchanging glances at each other, the only sounds coming from either of them being exhausted pants as they gasped for air. Though in time, they reached
